Story

Gianni Savio is the director of Professional Cycling Teams since 28 years.
Within many sponsors which have alternated in different formations, from Santini to Eurocar, from ZG Mobili to Kross, from Selle Italia to Serramenti Diquigiovanni, to get to the current one: Androni Giocattoli. A team philosophy set on youth policy. Lots of talented cyclists, discovered and launched as Professionals: the Italian Champion Andrea Tafi, the World Champion, Romans Vainsteins, the Venezuelan Champion Leonardo Sierra, Josè Rujano and Jackson Rodriguez, the Columbian Champions Fredy Gonzalez Carlos Contreras, Ivan Parra, Fabio Duarte and Josè Serpa, all victorious in Europe, and the great-little Columbian climber Nelson "Cacaito" Rodriguez, winner of a memorable stage in the Tour of France, ahead of Piotr Ugrumov and Marco Pantani. For five years – from 2000 to 2004 – the Colombia-Selle Italia has established an Intercontinental record, as it has been the only victorious team, in the same season, who won the Official races of the UCI International Calendar in all five Continents.
For 5 years more, from 2005 to 2009 – the team has won 5 Continental titles. In 2010 and 2011 the team also won the Italian Championship Teams. Gianni Savio, the current coach of the Venezuelan National, has directed the Columbian National since 2001, winning with Santiago Botero the World Championship Time Trial in 2002, the only World Title awarded to a South American Country ever.

2003

In the last editions of the Tour of Italy, the team has often obtained brilliant results, reaching an Individual Podium in 2005, a Podium in the Team Ranking in 2008, three Green Jerseys of the Grand Prix of the Mountain.

The pictures is referred to the Tour of Italy 2003: the team is on the Podium of Milan, winner of the Fair Play Ranking and of the Grand Prix of the Mountain, with Fredy Gonzalez.

2004

For five seasons, from 2000 to 2004, the team at the time called Colombia-Selle Italia, established an Intercontinental record: the only team who won – in the same year – the Official races of the UCI International Calendar in all five Continents.

In this picture the team is portrayed during its victorious transfer in Africa - Tour of Senegal.

2005

A victorious Tour of Italy with two stages won by Ivan Parra in Ortisei and one by Josè Ruiano in Sestriere; the Green Jersey of the Grand Prix of the Mountain won by Rujano and the Podium conquered by the same cyclist. In the picture, the Venezuelan climber – third classified – with the winner Paolo Savoldelli and Gilberto Simoni.

2006

On the final day of the Tour of Venezuela, on the Podium of Maturin, Selle Italia-Diquigiovanni celebrates a double success: the one of Josè Serpa in the Final Ranking of the Tour of Venezuela and the one of the whole team in the UCI America Tour.

2007

Alessandro Bertolini, portrayed in the picture as winner of the Tour of Appennino,  won the Final Ranking of the UCI Europe Tour 2007. Thirty-two victories for  the Diquigiovanni-Selle Italia team, which is the most successful team of the World in the Professional category.

2008

Prestigious success for the Diquigiovanni-Androni team who won the Team Ranking in the Italian Cup 2008. Twenty-three victories for the Italian-Venezuelan has been the most victorious team as Professional in the World.

 

 

2009

The Diquigiovanni-Androni team has been the leader in the centenary of the Tour of Italy and the team has won three stages and the podium in the Team Ranking, with a third place after of Astana of Lance Armstrong,  and Columbia of Mark Cavendish. In the picture, the victory of Michele Scarponi on the finishing line of Benevento during the Tour of Italy. Twenty-three victories for the Diquigiovanni-Androni team which, for the consecutive third year - has been the most victorious team as Professional in the World.

 

2010

At the start of the Tour of Emilia, two days before the end of the Italian Team Championship, the Androni-Diquigiovanni team celebrates the Championship Indoor.

 

Another exciting season for the team of Gianni Savio, Marco Bellini and Giovanni Ellena, who got fifteen HITS and just missed the podium in the Tour of Italy. Michele Scarponi, in fact, is classified at the fourth place after winning the GOAL OF APRICA, one of the queen stage of the whole Tour.

 

 

2011

Second consecutive league for the Androni-Cipi team, which celebrates the title of Champion of Italy, at the start of the Tour of Emilia. Thirteen victories, such as the queen stage of the mountain during the Tour of Italy with Josè Rujano – in the picture he is on the Finishing Line of the Glossglockner, victorious ahead of  Alberto Contador.


But also two more titles can complete a great season: the indoor victories with Giairo Ermeti as Omnium, and with Omar Bertazzo, Alessandro De Marchi, Giairo Ermeti and Filippo Fortin as Team Pursuit.
